Muema Lombe
Muema Lombe is the doyen of club culture, a photographer who has chronicled, covered and conveyed the euphoria that is club life. Over the last decade he has brought a unique perspective to photography and has shaped not only club imagery, but clubbing itself.
Muema first picked up a camera in high school and parlayed his interest in photography into a position as the photo editor of the school newspaper and later the photo editor of the yearbook. Today, Muema captures images that visually communicate a client’s intentions using his unique photojournalistic style.
Like much of his work in clubs, Muema’s portraits record the decadent world of club culture. He is able to illuminate the quirks and beauty of his subjects without judging them. His photos celebrate the music, the dancing, the pleasure that is house music.
Born in Machakos, to a prosperous Kenyan family, Muema left Kenya as a pre-teen. He went first to Paris, where he lived for several years, and then to Moscow before settling in New York. Today, Muema serves as the Photo Editor and Chief Documentarian of BounceFM.Com. BounceFM.Com is a New York based website dedicated to chronicling, covering and conveying the urban dance music experience around the world via interviews and photographs.
Muema’s work has appeared in Billboard, Vibe, Sweater and Time Out New York magazines.
Muema cites as creative influences the work of photographers Herb Ritts, David LaChappelle, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Ellen Von Unwerth, Bettina Rheims, Helmut Newton, Andres Serrano, Peter Beard, Steven Meisel, Karl Lagerfeld, Mario Testino, Noboyoshi Araki, Jan Saudek, Eric Kroll, Uwe Ommer and Piotr Sikora. |
